Artists working with spacial concepts

If anyone is aware of any artists that are investigating space in interesting ways, I would love to hear about them.

This may involve artists who are:

Exploring space as navigatable, knowable and defined, i.e. with maps, trails, directional work, data mapping, survailance, reconstructions.

Space as uncertain or spaces dealing with dualities; reconfigured spaces, anxious spaces, looking at space from dimensions such as height, lightness/darkness, weight, spaces that change.

Durational space, space where events occur, spaces that operate as a site for action and reaction, spaces that deal with time, site specific spaces, performance.

Spaces as sights of memory, forgetting, monumental spaces, informational spaces, museums, offices.

See if you can get your hands on the Summer 2006 FiberArts magazine. They have profiles on artists making topographic tapestries, quilted landscapes, maps and labrynths.

i'm not sure how helpful it will be, but you may want to look into visionary architecture, as that would imply space/architecture that exists only on paper and not in the real world due to it's grandiosity etc.

also, early peter greenaway often used maps and 'directions' in his early films and art work, as well as making 'documentaries' on spacial locations that exist as personal narratives (for maps: a walk through h, for the use of space; windows and 26 bathrooms

I had an idea just the other day of a number of sculpted installations to be realized in an outdoor setting which, when seen from a particular spot would connect to form a word, but when seen from any other angle or location would merely resemble abstract art in the way they would be created. I idealized it (for example) as four distinct structures, ambiguous seperately, but which would come together when seen from the perfect point in space to reveal the word "F U C K" (although that word is not necessarily the one I would choose).
Any comment or reply to this please respond to my livejournal blog at the username 'everywordmeans'. Thanks.
